Doctors in Spain have carried out the world's first transplant of a windpipe with tissue grown from the patient's own stem-cells.
Claudio Castillo's own stem-cells were used to create an artificial airway after tuberculosis destroyed part of her trachea - the windpipe connected to the lungs.
The success of the operation in June is poised to change the face of transplant surgery.
